Word Diary Update

I forgot:

36. Please
37. Green Beans ("Gee-Bees." Hmm... that is, unless he's referring to the 70's super group)

Word Diary

I've been reading the book How Babies Talk. The authors are specialists in infant language development. One stage of development for children 18 - 24 months is the "language explosion." When they've reached a vocabulary of around fifty words, their speech takes off. Since starting to talk at around twelve months, it may have taken them six or nine months to acquire fifty words. But after the language explosion they can learn up to thirty words a day.

Malcolm's words so far:
  1. Mommy
  2. Daddy
  3. Ball
  4. Balloon
  5. Baby
  6. Shoe
  7. Sock
  8. Elmo
  9. Eat
  10. Milk
  11. "All done"
  12. Book
  13. Hi
  14. Bye
  15. More
  16. Crackers
  17. Toast
  18. Water
  19. Night-night
  20. Outside
  21. No
  22. Yeah
  23. Show (as in TV show)
  24. Jack (as in Jack's Big Music Show)
  25. Berry (as in "strawberry")
  26. Teeth
  27. Nose
  28. Fish
  29. Fan
  30. Bike
  31. Natalie
  32. Tucker
  33. "Oh, man!" (Like Swiper on Dora the Explorer)
  34. Waffle
  35. Slide

Do animal sounds count? He seems to use them as the name for those animals. If so, then add ten animals sounds to the total. (Actually, add twelve, because a Lion says "Roar!" and a Monkey says "Oooo-ooo-ooo!")

We're getting close.

(P.S. I started writing this post April 27, but kept adding words until I decided I just needed to go ahead an publish it or I'd be adding words for the rest of his life!)

Cheesy Grin

Someone tell me, when exactly did Malcolm learn to pose for photos? Sometime in the last week, whenever I pull out the camera and point it at him, this is what I get:

All I'm going to say is, he comes by it honestly, following in the footsteps of a couple of other boys I know who have cheesy grins. Not mentioning any names. (Ahem...Zach and Tucker).
